Tristan Draper Continues to Gain Valuable Experience in 2013 With DIRTcar Sportsman Series Event at Brighton Speedway This Past Friday Night

With the 2013 regular season over, Tristan Draper and the Draper Racing team have slowly been making the transition from the Rookie Sportsman division into the regular DIRTcar Sportsman class. The first real big test came this past Friday night at Brighton Speedway as they attempted to qualify for the DIRTcar Sportsman Series with some of the best Sportsman division drivers from Ontario, Quebec and New York State.

The main objective for Draper was to make the show and run all 35 laps of the race, and to gain as much experience as possible. They accomplished their first task by qualifying through the last chance B-Main, and started the feature event from the 26th place starting position. The end result on the night was an 18th place finish, and the goal of running all the laps was accomplished.

“It was ok”, explains Draper. “We met our goals of qualifying for the show, and running all the laps. I know we really learned a lot and that was what we came here to do. “I am really looking forward to the Fall Nationals at Brockville, and working towards getting even better for next year”.

The 1000 Islands RV DIRTcar Northeast Fall Nationals at Brockville Speedway on October 18th will be the final race of the season for the Draper Racing team. They will immediately begin to prepare for 2014, focusing on applying the knowledge that they have gained from their rookie season, and are hopeful that next year will be even better.

Tristan and the entire Draper Racing team would like to thank all of the sponsors that have contributed to a successful season in the Rookie Sportsman division. These sponsors include Draper Doors, Bay Electric, Dig N Dirt, Wejay Machine Products, Rideauview Contracts and Speed Pro Signs.

Tristan Draper Has Successful Rookie Season With Three Feature Wins at Brockville Speedway; Unveils New Website From Finish Line Web Design

After spending the past few seasons racing go karts at Brockville Speedway, Tristan Draper and the Draper Racing team ventured into the full size open wheel Sportsman division in 2013, running in the newly formed Rookie Sportsman class that was just introduced prior to the 2013 season.

Although Draper was primarily running Brockville Speedway, the 16-year-old Harrowsmith, Ontario racer did get a couple races under his belt at Can Am Motorsports Park before the season started at Brockville. These two races helped get some valuable experience before competing at Brockville. The first few weeks at Brockville were a bit of a struggle, trying to find the setup that Tristan was comfortable with, and still adjusting to the full sized cars.

The highlight of the season came on Saturday, June 8th. Draper picked up his first career Rookie Sportsman feature win. He matched that result two more times throughout the course of the season, taking top honors again on July 6th and July 20th. Over the final few weeks of the year, Tristan dabbled in the regular Sportsman class, getting used to running with more cars. He will be in the regular Sportsman division full time beginning in 2014.

“It has been a good learning experience for us”, says Draper on his 2013 campaign. “We won a few races, learned a lot about the characteristics of these cars. I am looking forward to next season already. I really have to thanks our sponsors, and everyone that helped us out this year”.

Draper Racing would like to invite everyone to check out their brand new website, created by Finish Line Web Design. We also have Tristan Draper/Draper Racing t-shirts on order and will be available very soon.

Just a few more events remain in the 2013 season. Draper will compete at Can Am Motorsports Park this weekend with a 75 lap event on the schedule. They will then travel to Brighton Speedway on Friday, September 20th as part of their annual Applefest Weekend with a 50 lap DIRTcar Sportsman Series event. The season will conclude on Friday, October 18th with the season finale weekend at Brockville Speedway for the 1000 Islands RV DIRTcar Northeast Fall Nationals.
